GARRETT KAPRIELIAN
Garrett, a civil engineering
student from Santa Clara University, worked at Whitson
Engineers during the summer of 2008, just after finishing
his junior year. After meeting with Rich Weber, a fellow
Santa Clara Bronco, at his college career fair, Garrett
realized the firm would give him a great chance to learn
more about what is involved in the profession and expose him
to a real work environment.
Throughout his internship, Garrett gained valuable hands-on
experience which would have been difficult to come by at
other firms. “I feel that I will be many steps ahead of my
fellow classmates once I begin my senior year, especially
with regard to AutoCAD. Just being able to understand and
experience what civil engineering is all about has helped
tremendously.”
Some of his tasks included lot line adjustments for
clients, making revisions to plan sets for submittal, and
creating hydrologic reports for county projects. He was also
able to generate topographic maps using data he collected
while working with our survey crew. “It is so fulfilling to
see a project come together, from beginning to end, and know
that you were a part of it.”
“Everyone at Whitson was great; the small office atmosphere
made me feel right at home. What I like most about the
office is the personal and professional approach to the work
environment. It is also great see projects that better the
community I grew up in.”
