KYLE YAMASAKI

Kyle began his internship in 2006, following his third year at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, as a Civil Engineering student.

Kyle did not know quite what to expect when he first started.  "It turned out to be like one intensive civil engineering course.  I learned things that I would never get out of the classroom.  There just isn't enough time for most professors to go that in-depth in the classroom, or to be able to work on a project for that duration."

During the internship, Kyle was able to work in the field with the surveying crew, as well as in the office with the engineers.  "It was great to follow a project all the way from the surveying to the final map."  His entire perspective changed.  After working on real projects and being able to visit some of the job sites, he gained a much better understanding of what this profession is all about.  "I believe that the training, experience, and understanding that I gained this summer, will give me a definite leg up in upcoming years."

Kyle returned as a Senior Intern in 2007, following his fourth year at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
